Course Descriptions

 

SECR 101                                                                           BASIC KEYBOARDING                                                                         3 Units

Develops skills in manipulating the typewriter. This includes mastery of the letter and number keyboard, introduction in manuscript typing and to the basic types of letter styles and resumes, envelope typing, typing of financial statements and other business forms. Speed proofreading, neatness, accuracy and attractiveness are emphasized. Speed objective: 40-55 words a minute with 2% error tolerance.

 

SECR 102                                                                           PERSONALITY CEVELOPEMENT                                                     3 Units

A course to assit the students in developing a personal style such that opportunities for advancement are available; to instruct the student on personal; courtesy, and job related ethics. One goal is to help the student develop values and philosophy which would be an asset in any work environment.

 

SECR 103                                                                           ADVENCED KEYBOARDING                                                              3 Units

Covers the mastery of the letter and the number keyboard. Emphasis is on the production of available manuscript, letters, medical government legal another business forms resumes, stencils minutes of meeting, press releases, financial statement ect Speed Object: 50-65 words for minute prerequisite; keyboarding 1.

 

SECR 152                                                                           FUNDAMENTALS OF OFFICE PROCEDURES                           3 Units

A course that deals on the systematic function and procedures in the various offices where the secretary in working.

 

SECR 152                                                                           ELEMENTARY SHORTHAND                                                             3 Units

A course covering the introduction of the fundamentals of Greeg shorthand including the shorthand alphabet, brief forms, phrasing and other abbreviating devices; the development of minutes, the student’s mastery of such  non-short hands element as spelling, and pronunciations, and understanding of business words and phrases.

 

SECR 210                                                                           INTERMEDIATE SHORTHAND                                                         3 Units

A reinforcement of the student’s grasp of the principles of Greeg shorthand through the medium of the work list and connected matters. Emphasizes development of the ability to construct new outlines from dictation; to take a new materials in dictation at 50-70 word per minutes. Correctly spelled and punctuated; the development of student’s business vocabulary; and introduction to methods of handling simple- office style dictation problems. Emphasis is on speed.

 

SECR 202                                                                           BASIC COMMUNICATION AND CRITICAL SKILLS                3 Units

Deals with critical office procedures; such as telephoning, meeting people, purchasing, receiving and spelling. Exercise and on-the-job training are given to develop this skills. Give the students principles of office ethics, human and public relations, and the qualification on successful Christian service.  Gives an overview of the different filing system and intensive rules of alphabetic indexing.

 

SECR251                                                               ADVANCE OFFICE PROCEDURE                                                3 Units

The course is continuation of SECR. 202

 

SECR 252                                                                           ADVANCE TRANSCRITION                                                                3 Units

Emphasizes the training of secretarial students in the expert level. It consists of dictation of business letter materials at the rate 80-100 words a minute, on a 5  minutes take with 5% error tolerance. It involves word-list theory recall, introduction of shortcuts, derivative drills, high speed take from textbook and other supplementary materials, and actual office-style dictation and intermediate transcription on the machine prerequisite: SECR 151-152 and keyboarding.

 

 

SECR 301                                                                           OFFICE MANAGEMENT 1                                                                  3 Units

Covers the important phases of business office procedures that the secretary is called upon to use in addition to shorthand and keyboarding. These include filling, handling of mail, receiving callers, making and answering telephone calls, handling appointments, and operating office machines, and compute.  Desirable attitudes, good work habits and proper office decorum are develop. Emphasis is on prioritizing of work and decision making. This is conducted using lecture, modeling, discussion, simulation, and on-the-job training methods. Requirement to complete the course: students are to work for at least 200 hours either in a private or any government office. Students are also required  to work at the secretarial training center for at least 5 hours a week and in any office for 12-15 hours a week during a semester. And off-campus internship for at least 80 hours is required. Prerequisite: Critical skills, shorthand, keyboarding, accounting 1, English 3.

 

SECR 351                                                                           OFFICE MANAGEMNT 11                                                                 3 Units

Prepares students for intermediate employment. Mastery of office procedure, solving office problems, a review and practice of techniques and understanding of skills previously learn are  taking up. It emphasizes efficient and effective use of materials. Are required to work as clerk, typist, secretaries, and executives secretaries for at least 6 hours a week during the semester. Prerequisite: Office management 1, business communication.

 

CPTR 101                                                                                                  WORD PROCESSING (CCS)                                                              3 Units

Deals with the study on the fundamentals of word processing that will guide and help students perform basic skills in preparing letters, formatting a page, and utilizing the basic features of the word processing application.

 

CPTR 151                                                                          ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEETS                                                          3 Units

An in depth study of the specific electronic spreadsheet software providing students with adequate skills regarding its use including basic spreadsheet operations, build-in functions, database management, graphics presentation, printing techniques and macro programming. (2 hours lecture and 3 hours laboratory per week).

 

SECR 456                                                                           PRACTICUM                                                                                             3 Units

The integration of old and new understanding and skills by means of realistic office assignments, developments of personal qualities and instructions on legal secretarial duties and procedures. Includes four weeks apprenticeship in a legal office and in various officers. Two class periods and three hours laboratory weekly.

 

SECR 451                                                                           OFFICE MANAGEMENT ELECTIVE                                                                         3 Units

Prepares  students for employment either in a medical office or legal office. Prerequisite: Office Management 11.

 

SECR 452                                                                           TOURISM OFFICE PROCEDURES                                                  3 Units

A study of the explores tourism office procedures, which includes knowing world travel  destinations, geography, regional history culture, sales and marketing. It will also study a receptionist’s duties, mail and travel duties, business ethics, and general office procedures.

 

SECR 401                                                                           FILIPINO SHORTHAND                                                                                               3 Units

In this course the students study the beginning and the goals of Filipino shorthand. The course includes exercises in taking dictation letters, articles, and other things with the speed of 40-50 words per minute and the translation of these into correct placement.

 

SECR 402                                                                           LEGAL, AND TECHNICAL SHORTHAND                                     3 Units

A course designed to acquaint the students with legal terminology; to develop the ability to take legal dictation at a rate of 100 to 120 words a minute and to transcribe it accurately ; to familiarize the students with common legal forms and various types of courts and their jurisdictions; secretarial procedures that are particular to the law office; and to acquaint them with terms, phrases, abbreviation, forms, and documents peculiar to various fields.

 

SECR 401                                                                           OFFICE MANAGEMENT                                                                      3 Units

Aims for the mastery of the secretary’s basic already learned and orients the students to  the executive responsibilities and challenges of an executive secretary of administrative assistant. Includes exposure in the secretary’s training center for at least one month and an internship of two or four  weeks in an administrative or executive office. Requires actual secretarial work and exposure in offices including those with legal and medical orientation. Prerequisites: Office Management I,II and Elective.
