What is the importance of information system?

Answer: As its name implies, an information system exists to manage information. Information is one of the most valuable resources an organization has, so its management is crucial to making good business decision. The key difference between data and information is that data is not organized. Information systems organize data in a way that makes it easily accessible. For example, if you have a binder containing 10,000 accounts (that's a big binder), but the accounts are not sorted, that would be considered data because it is not easy to access one particular account. If you were to sort the accounts by name or number, accessing a particular account would be easy, so we can refer to this system as an information system An information system need not be electronic. We often refer to computer software that organizes data as an "electronic information system. (http://wiki.answers.com)
